Around the Horn - February 1, 2008 - Paul Pewitt Class of 1966I apologize for not updating our site on a regular basis—every time I sit down to work on it, a paying job falls into my lap. Most of us, if not all, will have turned sixty by now (I know, don't bring it up). I wish everyone the best as we step into our seventh decade—gosh, that makes us seem even older. One housekeeping note: my e-mail address has changed. Please send any info to me at rlewis0922@comcast.net.Kay Fulcher Carter sent this along last May: Well, I can now join the rest of you "grandparents." Thomas Michael Salazar was born Jan. 28, 2007. He weighed 8 and1/2 lbs, was 20 and 3/4 inches long and had a full head of dark black hair. He still has that full head of hair and looks just like his mom, my daughter. Grammy Kay keeps the handsome young man(now 4 months old and weighing 15 very solid lbs.) once a week. Believe me, I now know why the Lord gave children to young folks. Thomas Michael is a precious baby and I love to watch him as he grows and develops. However, once a week is just fine with me. Wish we could have a table at the Gala in June. It's not as hot in northeast Texas in June. I had a 6 day stay in the hospital in December with pneumonia. So, I didn't make to northeast Texas for Christmas. I'm long overdue for a trip up to God's country. Hope all is well.Donna Gibbs Johnson also dropped us a few lines: Just wanted to drop in and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope everyone stays safe and happy. Christmas was a lot more fun when we were kids. Our kids do not even know how to celebrate Christmas. I think it was more fun then because we didn't have to pay for it...HAHA!!!!!! Hope to see you all in the New Year.Judy Daniel McCollum also sent us a note and said "hi" to everyone. She also sent this photo of her at work in the Morris County sheriff's office to share with us. ![]() Since our classes at Pewitt were small, I've decided to include news from friends in other classes. I received a great note from Kay Frost Lowery last summer. Kay is retired after having taught school for 30 years. Kay and Bluford have three sons (ages 32, 33, and 36) and two grandchildren. Kay keeps Bluford busy with building a ceramic shed and greenhouse—Kay has a great love for working with flowers. The Class of 1967 held a reunion last July, and Kay was kind enough to send along a writeup and photos. The Pewitt Class of '67 held its 40th class reunion during the weekend of the Watermelon Festival. Members met in the afternoon at the new Alumni Building to visit and renew old friendships. It had been 40 years since some classmates had seen each other. Volunteers at the Alumni Center had copied pictures of students and events from the '67 annual and displayed them on a wall. Classmates met later at the Cajun Cowboy for dinner and more reminiscing. Fun Certificates for such things as having traveled the fartherest (won by Paula Wyninegar Tigert) and having the most grandkids (Dianne Scaff Matthews) were enjoyed by all. On a more somber note, members remembered David Coffey who passed away earlier in the year.
